Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center

As originally broadcast June 24, 2026, on Blue Ridge PBS …

There is a 3-acre nonprofit site in Roanoke, Virginia that may be the most biodiverse in the world.

On any given day animals belonging to nearly 300 species call this place home. They arrive abandoned, neglected, injured, near dead. They leave either rehabilitated to return to nature or as ambassadors to teach that most troublesome species of all — us humans — how to better live with them.

On this BUZZ, not only do we feature this amazing nonprofit, we provide it with some nonprofit marketing assets courtesy of animal lover Carrie Cousins of LeadPoint Digital that, like the creatures it cares for, are absolutely wild.

We thank the Robertson Family Foundation for underwriting our production costs for this episode!
