Blue Ridge Literacy

As originally broadcast May 28, 2025 on Blue Ridge PBS …

Making a home in a new environment is always a challenge, but even more so if the culture – and especially the language – is very different from your own. According to a recent study, Roanoke has one of Virginia’s highest populations of immigrants and refugees, with around 7 percent of those living in the city being foreign born.

On today’s episode we’re featuring the #nonprofit Blue Ridge Literacy, along with some of its government partners that strive to make Roanoke, Virginia, a welcome space for English learners. Co-produced by Roanoke Valley Television and Buzz4Good, this episode celebrates the nonprofit’s 40th anniversary by providing it with some buzz of its own!
